Heimat

Writer / Director

Set in a lake house in Upstate New York, “Heimat” portrays the role reversal of a daughter putting her busy life aside to care for her father and finally form a connection with him.

After going through their routine, Sabine takes a quiet moment for herself. However, it’s fleeting, as she notices her dad is having an attack. She rushes upstairs.

Once having checked on him, she calls the hospital. No answer. She scrambles to pack his bag. When the hospital finally does call back, having nearly finished packing, she reaches for the phone, but Albert’s already got the phone and hangs up. He has made his decision: He is not returning to their monotonous routine.

Sabine bundles him up and they make their journey to the lake. The innocent glow of Albert radiates as he soaks up this peaceful atmosphere. They share their last moments together. Content and at home.
